The Tragedy Of World War II Essay - 2204 Words

World War II is one of the most well known wars in history. It is known for many things such as the dropping of the atomic bomb in Japan by the U.S forces, the storming of the beaches in Normandy on D-Day, the bombing of the U.S Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, and the rise of Adolf Hitler in Nazi Germany. However, of the most notable and of tragic events of World War II would be that of the Holocaust. The Holocaust, which comes from a Greek word for a religious sacrifice, is famous for the horrible mistreatment and murder of Jews, Romanians, Gypsies, homosexuals, and Soviet prisoners of war. There have been many movies based on the tragic events of the Holocaust such as The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. The Holocaust has also lead to many famous works of literature such as the heart wrenching tale of a young girl’s hopes and dreams being destroyed by the Nazi army in The Diary of Anne Frank. While these movies and this diary and several other movies and works of literature like them give us a glimpse into what life in a concentration camp was like, they do not give us the whole picture of a European concentration camp in the 1940s. The things that are most well- known from the Holocaust are the death camps which are also known as extermination camps. The reason behind this was because of the mass murders of millions of Jews and others (Killing Centers). There were up to at least six death camps known during the height of the Holocaust. There are many explanations for the origins of modern social psychology. It is therefore important to consider that social psychology cannot be traced back to one single source of origin (Burr, 2003). Hence, this is the reason why there are debates of what social psychology is. Allport (1985) described social psychology as â€Å"the study of people’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours which are influenced by the actual, imagines, or implied presence of others†. As seen from this definition there is a direct link between social science and the individual psychology (Sewel, 1989). Social psychology cannot be seen as a linear phenomenon. Destruction by Manipulation in Shakespeare’s Othello Essay

William Shakespeare’s Othello, the Moor of Venice is a play of great manipulation and jealousy. Iago is the antagonist character of the play Othello. Iago becomes irate and filled with jealousy when Othello names Michael Cassio as his lieutenant, because Iago believed he should have been the one promoted not Michael Cassio. By manipulating everyone around him, Iago portrays himself as an honest noble man whom can be trusted. Iago being known for the honest man he earns everyone’s trust and therefore learns their weakness for his ultimate plan of destruction. Iago’s greatest skill is disguising his manipulative schemes of destroying and betraying the ones around him with what he leads people to believe as honesty. Montano and other men try to hold Cassio back; knowing Michael has no clue what he is doing due to be intoxicated. The fight quickly turns dangerous when M ichael Cassio turns against Montano and stabs him! Othello get word of the brawl outbreak and arrives with armed men to assess the situation. Iago is pleased with the brawl; he knows that the arrival of Othello will bring punishment to Michael Cassio. Othello demands to know what has happened to bring him away from his wife. Montano is in excruciating pain and unable to tell the whole story; Iago speaks for him. Telling Othello that he does not know how the fight had broken out. Michael Cassio, thinking Iago is being a friend and covering for him, goes along with Iago’s story. Othello immediately demotes Michael Cassio from his position as lieutenant. This is another achievement for Iago; he has gained trust from Michael Cassio and has the victory of Michael Cassio not being Othello’s lieutenant. Now that Michael Cassio is in distraught, he has no one to turn to, but Desdemona, Othello’s wife. Iago’s ultimate destruction is put into full motion. Mi chael Cassio and Desdemona spend a lot of secretive time together trying to figure out how to convince Othello to reinstate Cassio’s lieutenant position. Chinese Philosophy Encompasses A Myriad Of Philosophies

Chinese philosophy encompasses a myriad of philosophies that speak on religion, human nature, tradition, how to govern and essentially how to live. Among these collections of schools of thought are Confucianism and Toaism. While there exists both similarities and differences between the Confucian sage and the Taoist sage their political beliefs communicate different methods of achieving a prosperous and ethical state. However, based on the apparent adaptability and separation from potentially inadequate socially imposed structures, the philosophical approach introduced by Taoist thought is more favorable in creating a healthy and strong state. Confucius as a teacher was concerned with moral conduct, tradition and history. All members of the state must adhere to a moral law passed down from ancient exemplars. However, a ruler with direction will have a proper functioning government, as his example will encourage morality in others. Operating in this fashion will omit the need to enforce laws since others will follow in their way. The ministers will function according to loyalty by following the way, regulating wayward others. Taoism is modeled after a living philosophy. Naturalism is practiced and the role of the supernatural is downplayed. Ancestor worship is used as a way to pay reverence to the ancient elders of the past to reinforce honours and values of the culture through storytelling and practice teaching. The soul is regarded as being connected to the physical world in order to view the self as bound to Earth. The Taoist sage is free, they follow the way and respond to situations without prejudice regardless of circumstance. Being the focal point of society, all affairs will revolve around them, their own job being to lead through example of proper conduct. This had a major aspect in the full performance of the company and the profit margin of the organization. They were also later able to minimize their cost of production as a result of proper coordination among various groups, therefore, streamlining the activities. This is unlike in Omega Company where the president was also p erforming various activities, which were even out of his specialization e.g., he once operated in the shipping company and even working with some mechanical engineers. This behavior creates confusion in the organization at large developing an effect on the overall performance of the business. This also can be looked at the individual emotions, which may have an impact on the activities undertaken by the company. The above aspect of behavior should, therefore, be used in selecting the individuals to undertake a certain role in the organization as some are more challenging than the others. Individuals have perceptions and decision-making capabilities. As a result, the top management has to have ample knowledge of this as it would help in a grouping of individuals into various partitions according to their capabilities. This was the tactic with omega that gathered their specialists together and worked as a team.

I had called Mr. Ravi to thank him for the things he had done for me. He had been a great helping hand for me over in India. This audio recording has revealed the circumstances in which he had helped me. Now I have started a job in Canada and this is quite a hardworking job indeed. I have come aware of several facts indeed. I have realized that the communication style is very much important while speaking to someone else. I had been very cautious while listening to what he said. I did not interrupt in his words while he was talking. It could have been a disrespect to him as well. Communication style The different communication styles have a deep impact on the minds of the listeners. While a person is communicating with another person whether in phone or face to face, he or she might address to the questions very much directly (Baym, 2015). This would be very much problematic if the listener and the speaker cannot communicate with each other properly. There are several personal communication styles that have to be addressed in this paper. Some of the important personal communication styles are Assertive, Aggressive, Passive- aggressive and passive communication. These communication styles are very much important in order to address the issues in the communication between two persons (Baym, 2015). In this scenario, the personal communication style that has been followed is the Assertive communication style. The basic features of the Assertive communication style would be discussed in the next segment. The Assertive communication style lets the speakers to clearly communicate all the things with the listeners. The speakers can express all their feelings very openly indeed. The speakers can say whatever he or she feels right to do (Ceravolo et al., 2012). The speaker can address the right things at the right time but they do not violate the rights of the other people. The speakers can express their views and can state everything with proper clarity. The speaker can address all the important things in I statements. The speakers can communicate with respect for others as well. The speakers can communicate with the listeners as the listeners can listen to the things very cautiously (Ceravolo et al., 2012). The speaker can feel to be very much connected to other people as well. I have felt connected with Mr. Ravi as well in this context. He has been a great help for me in India so I have thanked him with the utmost respect. I have also asked about his family and the job he does. This ha s catered to the needs to show respect to Mr. Ravi. These are the reasons as to why I think this falls under the Assertive communication style. Barriers to assertive communication While I have been communicating with Mr. Ravi over the telephone, I have felt that I was not that much familiar with the person himself when I was talking to him face to face. This is one of the most important communication barriers for I was not able to communicate with him with such simplicity when he was in front of me. I have discovered that I am very weak in communicating with people on face. I have also realized the fact that I have been very weak in communicating with women. I cannot talk properly with women as I have not done it many times in the past. There are certain issues regarding the communication with the people opposite gender for me. These issues have to be will put a negative impact on the people whom I am communicating with. If I somehow behave badly with a woman, this will be very much problematic for my reputation indeed. Ways to resolve the communication barriers There are certain ways by which I will be able to cover up my communication barriers. As I have the assertive communication style, I must follow the ways by which these communication barriers can be overcome. I would like to converse with all the people from both the genders and from all the strata of the society so that I can build good communication skills with almost everyone. I must learn to show respect and politeness while I am talking with someone. I should not interrupt while the other is talking.
